Slurpee® drinks were on the house at participating 7-Eleven® stores across the U.S. and Canada Saturday, July 11, as 7-Eleven celebrated 82 years as the world's first convenience retailer. Some 6,800 7-Eleven stores gave away 5 million Slurpee drinks in 7.11-ounce cups. North Pacific Division:
In San Rafeal, Calif., more than 300 people came to Store #14132 for local celebrity DJ Sam Aguilar's radio remote for KSJO-FM, a Spanish-language station. This is the third year Franchisee Rajiv Uppal's 7-Eleven store has participated in a 7-Eleven Day event. "I love having this radio remote here because it draws big crowds and customers get really involved," Uppal said. (Guests wait to try 7-Eleven Day birthday cake.)
During the celebration, the store and radio station gave away an M&M Mars prize pack, Brazilian Bold coffee mugs, GI Joe posters and Transformers decal cups. Uppal saw a 27-percent increase in Slurpee® sales Saturday over last year.
Slurpee-mania also hit stores in California's Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura counties. One fan literally making a Slurpee run at the Store #17372 in North Hollywood said that if he timed it right, he hoped to visit four 7-Eleven stores per hour for 16 hours, for a total of 64 free 7.11-ounce drinks.
The store held a Slurpee-bration featuring Los Angeles dance phenomenon The Dance Floor Kids. The group, deemed the "Slurpee Crew," taught customers dance moves and tricks.
